On August 9, 1942, very early in the morning, a police officer came to arrest Bapu, Mahadevbhai and Mirabehn. Turning to Ba, who also happened to be there with them at the time, he said, "If you wish to join them, you can."
Hearing this, Bapu told Ba that if she felt she could not stay back, she could go along
with them. But, he added, that his own wish was that she should keep out and,
instead, continue his work.
The hint was enough for Ba. So she made up her mind then and there to carry on the
struggle for freedom.
