NO MORE HIROSHIMA - NO MORE WAR!- A call by about 600 college students of Mumbai for Peace and Nuclear-free Worldon the eve of 78th Hiroshima-Nagasaki Day |
Commemorating 78th anniversary of the atomic bombing on Hiroshima “Today, we pledge together with the millions of people all over the world to work tirelessly for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons and all weapons…”, led by students, graphically depicting the horror of the atom bomb, along with about 600 NSS volunteers from 25 colleges of SNDT and Mumbai University, social activists and peace-loving citizens in the city marched and pledged for peace and a nuclear-free world today, 5th August. Students were carrying a huge banner depicting slogans like ‘NO MORE HIROSHIMA’ and ‘We want to grow, not to blow up’ and placards, banners, flags depicting slogans like ‘NO BOMB, YES PEACE’, ‘NO WAR, YES PEACE’. The Peace rally started from Azad Maidan and concluded at Hutatma Chowk, where a Pledge was taken by students to work for peace & nuclear-free world. Dr Sushil Shinde, NSS Co-ordinator, University of Mumbai & Prof. Nitin PrabhuTendolkar, NSS Co-ordinator, SNDT University administrated the Pledge to the entire gathering. The Peace rally was jointly organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and NSS Units of Mumbai city colleges to mark the 78th anniversary of the devastation of Hiroshima & Nagasaki with a deadly atomic attack by America during World War II. The aerial bombing together killed between 129,000 and 226,000 people, most of whom were civilians and to join hands with millions of people of the world in their prayers to make a nuclear-free world. About 500 NSS volunteers marched for peace and nuclear-free world Students carrying placards & flags for peace and nuclear-free world.
