Letter, January 25, 1929147

[Dr. Saunders (1883-1937), Professor of the History of Religion, was with the YMCA in India from 1912 to 1917, and met Gandhiji. He wrote several books on Buddhism and on Asia. He sent Christmas greetings to Gandhiji and enquired if Gandhiji would write a preface to his forthcoming book on life in India. He also requested copies of Young India in which Gandhiji's autobiography was published.148]

Dear friend,
I have your letter. It is a difficult job for me to promise to read any book. But if you can send me your book, I shall only hope to get a few moments to go through it.
I am sending by registered book post two volumes of Young India and a copy of my autobiography.

Yours sincerely,

Kenneth Saunders,
