Smith, Frank P.

Letter, March 18, 1924158

[Mr. Smith, a lawyer, wrote to Gandhiji on February 5, 1924: "With all of the world figures of statesmanship in mind, I greet you as the foremost one from a real Christian standpoint. The great principle of all wisdom, progressing materially with all power that works anywhere to its infinite ends, will vindicate my esteem of you. Your policy is the first one which practically concedes the supremacy of the spiritual over the material, the superiority of the power of love over that of physical force. We could well follow...your example to a peace that will be universal and lasting..."159]
