NO MORE HIROSHIMA - NO MORE WAR!- A call by 787 college students of Mumbai for Peace and Nuclear-free Worldto commemorate 79th Hiroshima-Nagasaki Day |
Commemorating 79th anniversary of the atomic bombing on Hiroshima "Today, we pledge with millions of people worldwide to work tirelessly for the complete elimination of nuclear weapons and all armaments." Led by students who graphically depicted the horror of the atomic bomb, as well as approximately 787 NSS volunteers from 33 colleges of SNDT University and University of Mumbai, along with social activists and peace-loving citizens in the city, marched from Azad Maidan to Hutatma Chowk and pledged for peace and a nuclear-free world on 6th August. Students carried large banners with slogans such as 'NO MORE HIROSHIMA' and 'We want to grow, not to blow up.' They also held placards, banners, and flags displaying messages like 'NO BOMB, YES PEACE' and 'NO WAR, YES PEACE'. The peace rally started from Azad Maidan and concluded at Hutatma Chowk. At Hutatma Chowk, students pledged to work for peace and a nuclear-free world. Ms Sharda Sirisilla, NSS P.O., Dr BMN College of Home Science, SNDT University, administered the pledge to the entire gathering. The event was jointly organized by Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal and NSS Units of Mumbai city colleges to commemorate the 79th anniversary of the devastating atomic attacks on Hiroshima & Nagasaki during World War II by America. The aerial bombings resulted in the deaths of between 129,000 and 226,000 people, mostly civilians. Participants joined millions of people around the world in their prayers for a nuclear-free world. Before the Peace Rally, the Bombay Sarvodaya Mandal organized the ‘Nuclear Disarmament Awareness Campaign’ in several colleges across Mumbai from 29th July to 5th August, 2024. The campaign included a short documentary showcasing the atomic bomb attack on Hiroshima, a poster exhibition illustrating the devastating effects of the bomb attack, and orientation lectures. 787 NSS volunteers marched for peace and nuclear-free world MORE PHOTOGRAPHS AVAILABLE @ FACEBOOK |
