In the initial days this hut used to serve as a treatment centre for the villagers. Dr. Sushila Nayar was in charge. Buddhist Dharmanand Kosambi the Ashram Manager Chimanlal Shah and his wife Shakriben lived in this hut till their last. In the early days Mahadev Desai had also lived in this hut for sometime. Gandhiji also stayed in it occasionally. Day-by-day new activities were taken up and shortage of space was left.

In 1946 due to cough and cold Gandhiji stayed in this hut for sometime. He used to do this hut for sometime. He used to do his routine office work by sitting in the open verandah. He was staying here when he set out for Noakhali (Bengal) on the 25th August, 1946 and he never returned. Therefore, this hut is named as AKHIRI NIVAS or'The Last Residence'.

Gandhiji's Kitchen is another place in the Ashram area. Sometimes Gandhiji used to grind flour on the hand operated stone-mill which is now kept in the kitchen.

The Rustam Bhavan guest house was used for Ashram guests since Gandhiji's time. It was built by the son of one of his co-workers and disciple in South Africa.
