[Miss Krebs, an American traveller who studied Eastern religions and wrote articles for magazines, wrote to Gandhiji from Srinagar on May 21, 1928, requesting a meeting with him. She said she desired close cooperation between the oldest (Indian) and the youngest (American) civilisations.91]

Dear friend,
I have your letter. I shall be pleased to see you whenever you can come to the Ashram. I am not likely to leave the Ashram during the year. And when you come, you will of course stay at the Ashram, if you can manage with very simple vegetarian fare and comparatively simple life.
